Description

Spearman ISD (class 2A-D1) is looking to fill the head girls basketball/girls coordinator/classroom teacher position.  Spearman is an A-rated school district in the Texas Panhandle and will be moving to a 4-day school week in the 2025-2026 school year.  The district does provide additional compensation in conjunction with the baseline salary.  Currently the 2024-2025 Spearman ISD stipend for Head Girls Basketball +2nd sport is $10,000 and Girls Athletic Coordinator is $5,000.  The district also pays $3000 for a completed Master's Degree as well as contributing $400 towards health insurance premium.

 

Campus Description:

Spearman High School is a class 2A school district with approximately 190 students on the campus (Grades 9-12)

 

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in any core field to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competecies and skills to function successfully in society; and to direct and manage assigned program areas of extracurricular athletics for the distrct.  Provide each student with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all federal, state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and local requirements.

 

Qualifications:

     Education/Certification:

          Bachelor's Degree from accredited university

          Valid Texas Teacher Certification

          Tx CDL required

     Special Knowledge/Skills:

          Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

          Ability to instruct students/athletes and manage student behavior

          Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

          Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures

          Knowledge of overall operations of athletic program

          Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules

      Experience:

          Secondary teaching experience, preferred; 

          5 year(s) experience as coach

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA, board policies, and administrative regulations
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in IEP
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of studnts
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, collegues and community members
  • Comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Direct and manage assigned areas of the district's athletic program.
  • Use instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship
  • Take necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Work with athletic director to schedule competitions and plan season activities including practices, special events and tournaments
  • Ensure compliance with all UIL rules such as academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport, and verify each athletes eligibility.
